MORNING
#101—Spinning Angora Rabbit Wool, Jan Vanden Hout - instructor, 9:00 am — noon

Should have some spinning background     
Class Requirement(s): 
BRING TO CLASS -- Spinning wheel in working order and three (3) bobbins or ball winder.  Supported spindle ok, drop spindle not recommended. 

You can bring the following if you have them (Instructor will also have some available):

  •  hand cards, or

  • flicker brush, or

  • dog/cat slicker brush,

  • small container of cornstarch or talcum powder,

Mini niddy-noddy if you want to skein the yarn.

Description:  Meet three breeds of Angora rabbits:  English, French and German.  Learn to spin and ply the wool of each in various ways to make Angora yarns that produce the best effect.

#102—Learn To Spin with a Drop Spindle, Kathy Moskal - instructor, 9:00am — 11:00 am

Description: 

Learn to Spin with a Drop Spindle - Drop spindle and roving is included and will be provided at class time.  Using a spindle is a very economical way to learn hand-spinning for a beginner.  Drop Spindles are inexpensive to buy (relative to a spinning wheel) and also very easy to make.  Once you have mastered the spindle you will have learned the steps needed for spinning on the spinning wheel:  drafting out fibers, twisting the fiber into yarn, plying, winding up and storing the spun yarn.  This is a very relaxed class!

#103—There's No End To The Blend:  New Fiber Colors & Textures, Carol Densmore - instructor, 9:00am — Noon  

 

Cost: $40/student, plus $15 material fee to be paid directly to instructor (includes fiber samples, handouts & notebook materials).
Skill Level:  Beginner/Intermediate     
Class Requirement(s):  Students may bring a spinning wheel or drop spindle.  Two spinning wheels and a few drop spindles will be available for use during the workshop.

Description:   Add dimension and texture to your yarn or other fiber projects during this busy workshop. Through demonstration and hands-on blending, participants will learn to make new colors and new textures using wool, alpaca, llama, silk, angora, and more. We will learn how to use blending equipment including the drum carder, blending hackle, hand held combs, and hand cards.  

 Participants will blend and spin samples and create a reference notebook filled with mini batts and handspun yarn. Students will leave with many blended fibers and an understanding of how to produce more of the same. This class is a great opportunity to try fiber blending equipment and create your own wonderful one-of-a-kind blends.

#105—Fantastic Finger Puppets  Heidi Bukoski - instructor, 9:00am — Noon
Cost: $45/
student plus $10 material fee to be paid directly to instructor at time of class for wool & all wet and dry felting supplies.     
Class Requirement(s):
   BRING TO CLASS -- Hand towel and small scissors.

Description:  Once upon a time, using both the wet felting and needle felting techniques a collection of finger puppets was brought to life.  Each puppet is one solid piece, ears and arms are part of the whole.  The facial features are added with a felting needle.  Your favorite children’s book or fairy tale or just an idea of your own is the inspiration to work from.  (The instructor will have some classics on hand.)  Participants will create approximately 3-5 puppets to fit on the end of fingers and charm your listeners forevermore.

#106—Spin A Funky Yarn,  Roxanne Pett - instructor, 9:00am — Noon
Cost: $40/
student plus $15 material fee to be paid directly to instructor at class time.      
Skill Level:  Should have some spinning experience.

Class Requirement(s):   Wheel in good working order, hand cards, drum carder (if you have one).
Description: 

Want to spin a yarn with great character and colors that stay separate?  Intrigued by yarn you have seen that is Art all on its own?   You can learn to create these yarns and more in this class.  Make roving using your hand cards, a color carding board and a drum carder, adding little bits of yarn, string or thread into the rovings.  Tips on how to spin this yarn from the roving you create.  This class will allow you to make a yarn you love and have been seeing but not spinning!  Come, learn, enjoy.

#201—Introduction To Locker Hooking, Kelly Dubois Brandt - instructor, 1:00 pm — 3:30 pm
Cost: $50/student plus $15 materials fee to be paid directly to the instructor (includes fibers, foundation, locker hook, yarns, patterns and monograph).    

Skill Level:    Beginner
Description:  
Locker hooking is a fast way to use those beautiful rovings - no spinning, knitting, or weaving needed!  You will learn the basic stitches while creating a cushiony piece that you can use as a table trivet.  Once you have the hang of this very easy craft, you can make pieces as small as coasters and as large as floor rugs!

#202—Grooming and Care of the Angora Rabbit, Jan Vanden Hout - instructor, 1:00 pm — 4:00 pm
Cost: $50/student - all materials for class are included and will be provided at class time. 

Skill Level:    Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced
Class Requirement(s):    Note pad/pen and camera for pictures

Description:   Meet three breeds of Angora Rabbits - French, German and English.  Learn how to care for and groom them for best wool production.  Health needs or problems will be discussed and hands on grooming will take place.

#203—Simple Ways to Add Color and Texture To Your Knitting, Mary Bajcz - instructor, 1:00 pm — 4:00 pm
Cost: $35/student      

Skill Level:  Intermediate/Advanced
Class Requirement(s):  Bring an assortment of yarns and needle sizes for experimentation (ex: all those funky and unique pieces of yarn you have picked up along the way that you really like but haven't a clue what to do with).

Description:   Slip stitches, purl bumps, multiple strands and weaving can add complex textures and color mixes to your knitting.  These techniques are easy to learn and are good ways to use precious bits of yarn.  At the end of this class you will come away with multiple knit pieces enough to combine into a small one-or-a-kind, attention-stopper purse.

#301 — Primitive Rug Hooking--American Barnyard, Lynne Kossarek- instructor, 9:00am - noon

  Beginner - no rug hooking experience necessary

Description:   In this primitive rug hooking workshop, students will learn traditional rug hooking techniques.  Each student will receive a kit which includes an original pattern designed by Lynne, pre-cut wool, a hook and instructions.  Frames are available for class and for purchase.

#302—Spirit Bear (wet felt), Kelly Dubois Brandt - instructor, 9:00 am — 11:30 am
Cost: $50/student plus $15 material fee to be paid directly to instructor at class time (includes felting fibers, stuffing, decorative fibers & beads, use of felting tools, monograph)     

Skill Level:    Beginner with some felting experience
Class Requirement(s):  
Small items that have meaning for you that can be attached to your figure.  An old towel for soaking up soapy water, a large cellulose sponge, a matchstick blind at least 24"x30". (Blinds available from the instructor for additional $10by pre-order.)  Optional: dishwashing gloves if you do not like having your hands in soapy water; any fibers or yarns of your own that you might want to incorporate in your project.  Water to drink.  Jot down a few notes with the bits you bring along to give meaning to your work.  Think about a single word that would embody your theme such as “change,” “creativity,” or “healing”.  Contact Kelly directly with any questions at 616-374-7176 or kbrandt96@sbcglobal.net  or www.teameffortartisans.com

Description:    Since the earliest times, animal shaped figures have been formed to represent important attributes for their creators.  You will learn how to make an enclosed form with only a small opening for stuffing.  Use wet felting techniques to create a three dimensional animal shape that can express a hidden side of you!   Learn the prefelt technique to make lightly felted pieces which we will cut into shapes to decorate the body of your talisman animal.  We will felt them into place, and stuff the forms to bring them to life.  Add your amulet items to bring personal meaning to your figure!

#303 — Introduction to Entrelac Knitting, Suzanne Pufpaff - instructor, 9:00am - noon 

Cost: $35/student;  plus $5 material fee to be paid directly to instructor at class time.

Intermediate    

Class Requirement(s):  4-6 oz of yarn and needles to match.
Description:    The project for this workshop will be a simple Entrelac Scarf.  Entrelac is an exciting knitting structure that looks and feels like a very difficult basket weave knit structure. Looks can be deceiving.  With the mastery of a few simple knit techniques anyone can have fun with Entrelac.

Skills covered: 1-how to knit both ways without turning the work, sometimes called knitting backwards, 2-how to pick up stitches  so that the back looks as good as the front of the work, 3- how the structure of Entrelac works and sequences.

#304—Felted Mittens, Durenda Pake - instructor, 9:00am — Noon

#305—Needle & Wet Felted Hat, (This is an all day class)  Kathy Moskal - instructor, 9:00am — 4:00 pm
Cost: $135/
student - all materials for class  are included and will be provided at class time.

  Beginner - no felting experience necessary

Description:    Learn how to fashion a unique, one-of-a-kind, hand-felted hat.  To start:  layers of roving and yarns are applied to a foam form using needle felting.  Then we will wet felt the wool on a ball with hot water, a drop of Ivory and bubble wrap.  After we get a irmly felted object, you will remove the ball and continue shrinking your hat.  Each student will make 1 hand-felted hat during class and have the skills to make more on their own.  Lots of work and lots of fun!

#401—Sterling Wire Woven Bracelet,  Heidi Bukoski - instructor, 12:30 -- 3:30 pm

Cost:  $45/student plus a $15 to $20 material fee (based upon current price of silver) to be paid directly to instructor at class time 
Skill Level:    Beginner
Description:   Use a jig to weave 8 strands of sterling silver wire into a round, herringbone pattern bracelet.  Finish with a sterling silver clasp.  My father taught me this technique he learned from an old merchant marine who used it to while away the hours on the open sea.

#402—Hairpin Lace,  Roxanne Pett - instructor, 12:30 -- 3:30 pm

Cost:  $35/student plus a $7 material fee (handouts and pattern) to be paid directly to the instructor at class time.
Skill Level:    Beginner

Class Requirement(s):   Hairpin lace loom (the instructor will have a few to sell), fingering weight yarn, crochet hook size D, E or F and scissors.

Description:   Learn how to make hairpin lace, a very versitile lace that can be made into many different projects: shawls, scarves, skirts -- only limited by your imagnation.  You will learn how to make the lace and then how to join the strips.  There are many new and exciting yarn types on the market today that will change a timeless craft into modern new looks, by incorporating wire, beads, strips of cloth, you can "up-the-ante" even more.  Explore your imagination by becoming part of the growing movement of hairpin lace makers and creating a one-of-a-kind creation!
